With pop culture references and tongue-in-cheek titles of artwork, Stephen's works are always exciting and even sometimes challenging. Although his pieces can often be visually viewed as spontaneous and abstract, there is irony in Stephen's approach — resin is one of the least spontaneous materials, requiring a controlled environment and rigorous planning to ensure successful results.
Stephen's pieces have a tactility to them, with the textures and light refractions drawing us in. His works are known to push the boundaries of the artificial and the organic as well as the physical and the digital. The resin pieces can even appear like glass at times, giving them a certain fragility, when in actuality they are very durable — another contradiction that keeps Stephen's works engaging.
In one space for the first time in over two decades, Stephen has commissioned selected artworks as fine art limited editions.

Hands of Love
During the recurring power cuts of the early 1970s, candlelight became the improvised illumination of my early childhood. This intermittent source of incandescent light proved instrumental in the development of hand shadow figures projected on our living room wall. Arguably, we were advocates of the earliest digital images, long before smartphones took over storing our visual memories.
I would often project this naïve likeness of my dog Jasper, as closely as possible to depict his noble silhouettes. Becoming synonymous with resin in the studio, I was able to formulate a technique of extrusion to lovingly embellish his opposing side profiles. In spite of carrying iconic images of him within easy reach, these are the shapes I improvise often at the end of my arms.
